What is the Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers?


The Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers is a three day interactive professional learning workshop for primary and junior teachers. The program shares innovative teaching strategies for integrating science, technology, engineering, and math into classroom lessons.

At the Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers, educators explore how to make science come alive for students. Teachers discover new ways to have students apply their knowledge. Teachers will also be equipped with information and resources to share with other teachers in their home communities.

St John's, Newfoundland - July 11 or 12, 2017

The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation is pleased to bring its award winning program - Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers to St John’s this July.  Teachers are invited to participate in this one-day summer learning experience. To meet demand two dates have been planned with the same workshops being offered both days.  Download  the FAQ for more information.

A registration fee of $60 includes workshop materials and lunch.

Award Winning Program


The Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers received an Award of Excellence in Programs from the Ontario Museum Association

The Ontario Museums Association Award of Excellence in Programs is presented to individuals, institutions, corporations, or agencies for programming that creatively engages new audiences, or provides exemplary service to existing ones.

The Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers (SIET), presented by the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation offers innovative, hands-on, and high energy workshops for elementary teachers from across Canada. Educators explore how to make science come alive for students, discovering new ways to have students apply their knowledge. The workshops cover a variety of topics from algebra to electricity and are facilitated by local experts in topics from geological science to astronomy, as well as by the Museum’s enthusiastic team of educators and curators.

The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation was pleased to host a "Summer" Institute for Elementary Teachers in Iqaluit as part of the Nunavut Teachers' Association Professional Improvement Week.  

Vancouver - August 9 to the 12, 2016 

The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation is pleased to host once again a Summer Institute for Elementary Teachers in Vancouver in partnership with Science World. The registration fee included workshop materials, an on-site lunch and access to additional resources.
